How this calculator estimates calories

This tool uses the standard exercise-science formula calories = MET × weight (kg) × hours. A MET, or Metabolic Equivalent of Task, describes how hard an activity is compared with sitting still. Sitting quietly is 1 MET; a brisk walk is about 3.5 METs, meaning it burns roughly three and a half times the energy of resting. Running at a solid pace is close to 9.8 METs. We multiply the MET value by your body weight in kilograms and the time you spent moving to get a calorie estimate.

Why weight and time matter most

Heavier bodies burn more calories doing the same activity because they move more mass. Time is the other big lever, so an easy 60-minute walk can rival a short intense session. Your real burn also depends on age, fitness, terrain, and effort, which is why two people doing the "same" workout rarely match exactly. These are estimates, not professional or medical advice.

Are these numbers exact?
No. MET-based estimates are population averages. Your true burn can vary 10–20% based on fitness, intensity, and metabolism. Treat the result as a helpful ballpark.
Should I count calories burned when dieting?
Many people slightly overestimate exercise burn, so lean toward the conservative side and focus mainly on food intake for weight goals.
Why is my activity not listed?
Pick the closest match by intensity. A moderate activity you don't see is usually near 4–6 METs; vigorous efforts land around 8–12.
Does it store my data?
