๐ How it works & FAQWhat CPC actually tells you
Cost per click is the plainest health metric in paid advertising: divide what you spent by the clicks you received and you know exactly what one visitor costs you. Whether you run Etsy Ads, Google Ads, Meta, or Pinterest campaigns, CPC lets you compare channels on equal footing and decide where the next dollar should go. Pair it with your conversion rate and average order profit and you can work backwards to the maximum CPC you can afford before a campaign loses money.
This calculator solves in any direction. Know your spend and clicks? It returns CPC. Planning a budget at a known CPC? It projects total cost, or the number of clicks a budget will buy. Add impressions from your ads dashboard and it also reports click-through rate (CTR) and effective CPM. Every figure here is an editable input and any defaults are approximate โ ad platforms change their auctions and rates constantly, so check your platform's current fees and numbers; results are estimates only, not financial advice.
How to use it
- Pick what you want to solve for: CPC, total cost, or clicks. The solved field locks automatically and fills itself in.
- Enter the two values you already know โ for example, $50 of spend and 120 clicks.
- Optionally add impressions to unlock the CTR and eCPM cards.
- Read the results row. Everything updates live as you type, entirely in your browser.
FAQ
- What is a good CPC?
- It depends entirely on your margin and conversion rate. A $2 click is cheap if a sale nets $80 and 5% of visitors buy; a $0.20 click is expensive if nobody converts. A useful ceiling: maximum CPC = profit per sale × conversion rate.
- How is CPC different from CPM?
- CPC prices each click; CPM prices 1,000 impressions regardless of clicks. This tool shows eCPM โ your effective cost per 1,000 impressions โ so you can compare a CPC campaign against CPM-billed placements.
- What counts as a click?
- Platforms differ: some count any engagement, others only link clicks. Use "link clicks" or "outbound clicks" from your dashboard for a true traffic cost.
- Is my data uploaded anywhere?
- No. Everything runs in your browser with plain JavaScript; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
