Stacked discounts and sales tax

Two discounts almost never add up the way people expect. "25% off, then 10% off" is not 35% off — the second discount comes off the already-reduced price, so the true saving is a little less. This tool applies the second discount to the discounted subtotal, exactly like a real checkout. Sales tax is then added to that final subtotal, since tax is charged on what you actually pay, not the pre-discount price.

FAQ

Is "25% off then 10% off" the same as 35% off?

No. The second discount applies to the reduced price, so 25% then 10% equals about 32.5% off overall, not 35%. This calculator handles that correctly.

Does it add sales tax before or after the discount?

After. Tax is calculated on the discounted subtotal, which matches how nearly every store rings it up.

Do my numbers get uploaded anywhere?
