What your email list is really worth

An email list is one of the few marketing assets you actually own. No algorithm decides who sees your message, and no ad platform charges you rent to reach people who already said yes. This calculator turns that asset into a number two ways. If you already track email revenue, it simply divides revenue by subscribers to get value per subscriber, then multiplies back out for total list value. If you don't have revenue data yet, it estimates it from your engagement funnel: open rate × click rate × conversion rate × average order value gives revenue per email sent per subscriber, and your sending frequency scales that to a yearly figure.

Knowing your value per subscriber changes decisions. It tells you the most you should pay for a lead, whether a paid newsletter placement can pay for itself, and how much money list churn quietly costs you every month. These are estimates only, not professional or financial advice; real results vary by niche, list health, and offer.

What is a good value per subscriber?
A common benchmark is $1 per subscriber per month, but real numbers range from pennies for cold, rarely-mailed lists to $10+ per month for engaged buyer lists with strong offers.
Is click rate measured against opens or delivered emails?
This tool uses click-to-open rate: the percentage of people who opened and then clicked. If your platform reports clicks against delivered emails, divide that figure by your open rate first.
Where do I find my email revenue?
Most email platforms and Shopify/analytics dashboards attribute revenue to email campaigns and flows. Add campaign and automation revenue together for the truest picture.
Does list size alone determine value?
No. A 2,000-person list that opens and buys often out-earns a 50,000-person list of stale addresses. Engagement and offer fit drive the math far more than raw count.
