Why flour needs its own converter

Flour is one of the trickiest ingredients to measure because it is light and airy. A cup of all-purpose flour can weigh anywhere from about 120 to 130 grams depending on whether it is scooped, spooned, or sifted. This converter uses the widely accepted baking standard of 1 cup all-purpose flour = 125 grams = 4.4 ounces, so you can move between weight and volume with confidence. Weighing your flour is the single best way to get consistent results, especially in bread, cakes, and pastry where a little extra flour makes everything dry.

Grams, cups, and ounces at a glance

Grams are the metric weight unit most recipes outside the US rely on. Cups are a US volume measure, and ounces here mean weight ounces (not fluid ounces). Because this tool converts by weight, 4.4 oz always equals 125 g regardless of how fluffy your flour is. Enter one number and the other two fill in automatically.

FAQ

Does this work for bread or cake flour?
It is calibrated for all-purpose flour. Bread flour is slightly heavier and cake flour slightly lighter, so treat results as a close estimate for those types.
Why does my cup weigh a different amount?
Flour compresses when scooped. For best accuracy, spoon flour into the cup and level it off, or simply weigh it in grams.
Are these fluid ounces?
No. The ounces here are weight ounces. One cup of flour is 4.4 weight ounces, not 8 fluid ounces.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs privately in your browser, so nothing you type ever leaves your device.
