Lunch Break Calculator
Enter your clock-in and clock-out times, add any unpaid breaks, and instantly see your paid work hours, total break time, and full shift length โ updated live as you type.
๐ How it works & FAQHow paid time is calculated
The math is simple and transparent: paid time = shift length − unpaid breaks. The calculator measures the minutes between your clock-in and clock-out times, subtracts every unpaid break you list, and shows the result three ways — paid time in hours and minutes, the same figure as decimal hours (the format most payroll systems use), and your total shift length for reference. If your clock-out time is earlier than your clock-in time, the tool assumes an overnight shift and adds 24 hours automatically, so night workers get correct numbers too.
Why unpaid breaks matter on your paycheck
Most hourly jobs deduct a 30- or 60-minute unpaid lunch, and many add shorter unpaid rest periods on long shifts. Those minutes add up fast: a daily 45-minute unpaid lunch removes almost four hours from a five-day week. Checking your paid time against your pay stub is the quickest way to catch a timekeeping error, a rounding issue, or a break that was deducted when you actually worked through it. Everything here runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored. Results are estimates only, not professional advice; break rules and pay laws vary by location and employer.

FAQ
- Should I include paid breaks?
- No. Only enter breaks that are deducted from your pay. Short paid rest breaks stay on the clock, so leave them out.
- What are decimal hours?
- Payroll software usually records 7 hours 30 minutes as 7.50 hours. The calculator shows both formats so you can compare directly with your timesheet.
- Does it work for overnight shifts?
- Yes. If clock-out is earlier than clock-in, the tool treats the shift as crossing midnight and labels it as overnight in the results.
- Is my schedule data saved anywhere?
- No. All calculations happen locally in your browser — nothing is sent to a server or stored after you leave the page.
