How Mercari fees work

When your item sells on Mercari, two charges come out before you get paid. The selling fee is a percentage of the item's sale price โ€” 10% by default here. The payment processing fee is charged on the amount the buyer actually pays (item price plus any buyer-paid shipping) at 2.9% plus $0.50 per sale. Your net payout is the buyer's total minus both fees. Your real profit then subtracts what the item cost you and any shipping or label cost you cover yourself. The fee figures are approximate defaults you can edit; check the platform's current fees; estimates only, not financial advice.

How to use it

  1. Enter the sale price โ€” the listed price of the item itself.
  2. Pick a shipping option. If the buyer pays, enter what they're charged; if you offer free shipping, that field is ignored.
  3. Enter your shipping/label cost โ€” what actually comes out of your pocket for postage.
  4. Add your item cost (what you paid for it, plus supplies if you like).
  5. Adjust the fee fields if Mercari's rates have changed โ€” all three are editable.
  6. Read the results: net payout, total fees, profit, and margin update live as you type.

FAQ

Is the selling fee charged on shipping too?
By default this calculator applies the selling fee to the item price only, while the processing fee applies to the full buyer total (price + buyer-paid shipping). That matches how Mercari has commonly structured it, but verify against your latest sales receipt.
What if I use a Mercari prepaid label?
Put the label price in "Your shipping/label cost." Whether Mercari deducts it from your payout or the buyer funds it, the profit math works out the same.
Why is my profit negative?
Fees plus shipping plus item cost exceed what the buyer pays. Raise the price, charge for shipping, or use a cheaper shipping method.
Does this send my numbers anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser โ€” nothing is uploaded, stored, or tracked.
