What is a palindrome?

A palindrome is a word, phrase, number, or sequence of characters that reads exactly the same backwards as it does forwards. Simple examples include "level," "radar," "kayak," and "noon." Longer phrases work too, as long as you ignore the spaces and punctuation between words: "A man, a plan, a canal, Panama" is a classic full-sentence palindrome, and so is "Was it a car or a cat I saw?"

How this checker decides

This tool strips your text down to its core letters and digits, converts everything to lowercase, and then compares that cleaned string against its own reverse. Because case, spaces, commas, and other punctuation are removed first, "Racecar" and "race car" both count as palindromes. If the cleaned string matches its mirror image character for character, you get a green YES; otherwise you get a red NO. The stat cards show how many letters and words you typed, how long the cleaned string is, and exactly what that string looks like reversed, so you can see the comparison for yourself.

FAQ

Does capitalization matter?
No. Everything is lowercased before checking, so "Level" and "level" are treated the same.
Do spaces and punctuation count?
No. Spaces, commas, periods, and other symbols are removed first, so full phrases like "No lemon, no melon" pass.
Do numbers work?
Yes. Digits are kept, so "12321" is recognized as a numeric palindrome.
Is a single letter a palindrome?
Yes. Any single character reads the same backwards, so it always counts as YES.
