What a passport photo actually has to be
Government photo rules are surprisingly strict, and they're about exact dimensions, not just "a nice headshot." A US passport or visa photo must be 2 inches square (51 mm) with your head taking up roughly 1 to 1⅜ inches from chin to crown. The UK and most of the EU use 35×45 mm in portrait. Both need a plain light background, a neutral expression, and a print resolution of 300 DPI so the photo stays sharp instead of pixelated.
