PDF Metadata Editor

Read and rewrite the hidden Title, Author, Subject and Keywords baked into any PDF β€” all right here in your browser.

πŸ“– How it works & FAQ

Pick a PDF to see its current metadata, edit any field, then save a fresh copy. Nothing leaves your device.

What is PDF metadata?

Every PDF carries a small block of hidden information called document metadata. It records things like the Title, Author, Subject and Keywords, plus the software that produced the file (Creator and Producer). You never see these fields on the page, but search engines, document libraries, e-readers and operating-system file browsers all read them. A resume saved as "Untitled β€” Microsoft Word" looks far less polished than one whose title actually reads your name, and correct keywords make a document easier to find later.

Why edit it?

People clean up PDF metadata to fix a wrong or embarrassing author name, to give a file a proper title before sending it to a client, to add searchable keywords to an archive, or to strip out details left behind by whatever program first created the document. Because this tool runs entirely in your browser, your file is never uploaded to a server β€” the editing happens on your own device, which matters when a document is confidential.

How to use it

  1. Click the file box above and choose a PDF from your computer or phone.
  2. The current Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator and Producer load automatically. Blank fields simply mean that value was never set.
  3. Edit any field. Separate multiple keywords with commas.
  4. Press Save & download PDF to get a new copy with your changes. The original file on your disk is left untouched.

FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and rewritten locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to any server.
Does editing metadata change the pages?
No. Only the hidden document-information fields change. The visible pages, text and images stay exactly the same.
Why are some fields empty when I load a file?
Many PDFs are created without a title or author set. An empty box just means that field has no value yet β€” type one in and save.
It won't open my PDF. Why?
The file may be password-protected or encrypted, which blocks editing. Remove the protection first, then try again with the unlocked copy.
