What this tool does

Text copied from PDFs, emails, spreadsheets, and web pages is often full of invisible clutter: double or triple spaces between words, stray spaces at the start and end of lines, hidden tab characters, and empty lines that break up your formatting. Remove Extra Spaces cleans all of that in one pass so your text is tidy and consistent. It collapses any run of multiple spaces down to a single space, trims the leading and trailing whitespace on every line, and can optionally strip out tab characters and blank lines entirely.

Why clean whitespace matters

Extra spaces cause real problems. They throw off character and word counts, break CSV and code formatting, create ugly gaps when text is pasted into a design or a document, and can even trip up search-and-match logic. Cleaning whitespace before you publish, print, or import text keeps everything aligned and professional. Everything runs locally in your browser — your text is never uploaded to a server, so it stays completely private.

How to use it

1. Paste or type your messy text into the top box.
2. Tick the options you want: collapse multiple spaces, trim each line, remove tabs, or remove blank lines.
3. The cleaned text updates automatically as you type and change options.

FAQ

Does it remove line breaks between paragraphs?

No. Single line breaks are preserved. Only turn on Remove blank lines if you want empty lines deleted.

What happens to tab characters?

By default tabs are left alone. Tick Remove tabs to convert them to a single space so they collapse with the rest of the whitespace.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

Never. All processing happens in your browser, so your content stays private on your device.

Can I clean a whole document?

Yes — paste as much text as you like. The tool handles long, multi-line content just as easily as a single sentence.
