Reseller Profit Calculator

Work out exactly what a flip puts in your pocket. Enter what you paid, what it sold (or will sell) for, the platform's fees, and your shipping and supplies โ€” you'll instantly see net profit, profit margin, ROI, and the break-even sell price. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

๐Ÿ“– How it works & FAQ

Know your real profit before you buy the flip

Most reselling losses happen at the thrift store, not at the sale. An item that looks like a $20 spread can shrink to pocket change once the platform takes its cut and you cover shipping, a box, tape and a poly bag. This calculator does the full math: it subtracts the platform's percentage fee and fixed per-order fee from your sale price, then subtracts your buy cost, shipping and supplies to show net profit, margin, ROI and the break-even price you must clear.

The platform presets (eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Facebook Marketplace, Etsy) are approximate defaults you can edit โ€” marketplaces change their fees often and rates vary by category and seller level, so check the platform's current fee page. All results are estimates, not financial advice.

How to use it

  1. Pick your platform preset, or choose Custom and type your own fee % and fixed fee.
  2. Enter the sell price โ€” actual or the price you plan to list at.
  3. Enter your buy price, the shipping cost you pay (enter 0 if the buyer pays), and supplies like boxes and mailers.
  4. Read the results: they update live as you type. If Net profit turns red, the flip loses money at that price โ€” the break-even card shows the minimum you'd need to charge.

FAQ

What's the difference between margin and ROI?
Margin is profit as a share of the sale price โ€” how much of each dollar the buyer pays that you keep. ROI is profit divided by the cash you put in (buy price + shipping + supplies) โ€” how hard your sourcing money worked. A $5 item sold for $25 can have a modest margin but a huge ROI.
Do platforms charge fees on shipping the buyer pays?
Often yes โ€” eBay and others calculate their percentage on the total the buyer pays, including shipping and sometimes tax. If so, put the shipping-inclusive amount in the sell price field for a tighter estimate.
What counts as supplies?
Anything consumed per order: boxes, poly mailers, tape, bubble wrap, thank-you cards, thermal labels. Averaging a per-order figure (many resellers use $0.50–$1.50) keeps your numbers honest.
Should I include my time?
The calculator doesn't, but you should sanity-check it: divide net profit by the minutes spent sourcing, photographing and packing to see your effective hourly rate before scaling up a product line.
