๐Ÿ“– How it works & FAQ

What UTM parameters do

UTM parameters are short tags added to the end of a URL that tell analytics tools exactly where a visitor came from. When someone clicks a tagged link, tools like Google Analytics read the utm_source (the site or channel), utm_medium (the type of traffic, like email or cpc) and utm_campaign (the specific promotion) and credit that visit to the right campaign. Without them, most of your hard-won clicks get lumped into vague buckets like "direct" or "referral" & you never learn which newsletter, ad or pin actually drove sales.

How to use it

  1. Paste the full address of the page you want people to land on into the Website URL field. Existing query strings and #anchors are preserved automatically.
  2. Fill in the three required tags: source (where the link lives, e.g. newsletter or facebook), medium (the traffic type, e.g. email or cpc) and campaign (a name for the push, e.g. spring-sale-2026).
  3. Add term and content only if you need them โ€” term for paid keywords, content to tell two links or buttons in the same placement apart.
  4. Your finished link builds live at the bottom, fully URL-encoded. Click Copy link and paste it into your email, ad or social post.

FAQ

Why are my values lowercased with dashes?
Analytics tools treat "Email" and "email" as two different mediums, which splits your reports. Consistent lowercase, no-space values keep every click in one row. Untick the formatting box if you need exact casing.
Which parameters are required?
Google Analytics expects utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign at minimum. Term and content are optional refinements โ€” most links do fine without them.
Does this work with links that already have parameters?
Yes. If your URL already contains a query string like ?ref=abc, the UTM tags are appended with an ampersand so nothing existing breaks, and any #anchor stays at the very end.
Is my URL uploaded anywhere?
No. The entire tool runs in your browser โ€” nothing you type ever leaves your device.
