What web hosting really costs per month

The advertised price of a hosting plan is rarely what you actually pay. The domain renews once a year, an SSL certificate may or may not be bundled, a CDN adds a few dollars a month, and business email is almost always a separate subscription. This calculator lines all of that up in one place. Every line item is editable โ€” rename it, change the amount, and set whether it is billed per month or per year โ€” and you can add or remove rows for anything else in your stack, such as backups, malware scanning or a site-builder license. The math is shown right on the result cards: true monthly cost is the sum of monthly items plus yearly items divided by twelve, and the first-year total is twelve times the monthly items plus the yearly items. Everything recalculates live as you type and runs entirely in your browser โ€” nothing you enter is uploaded anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Edit the five starter rows โ€” hosting plan, domain, SSL, CDN and email โ€” with the prices from your provider.
  2. Set each row's billing cycle to per month or per year, matching how it is actually invoiced.
  3. Click Add line item for extras like backups, security or a website builder; remove any row you do not pay for.
  4. Read the cards: true monthly cost, first-year total, and the monthly-billed and yearly-billed subtotals.

FAQ

Why is my first bill different from the renewal price?
Most hosts sell the first term at a promo discount and renew at full rate. Enter renewal prices to see long-run cost, or promo prices to budget year one โ€” run it both ways to see the gap.
Do I need to pay for SSL?
Usually not. Free certificates are bundled with most modern hosts, so the starter row defaults to $0 โ€” change it only if your provider charges for one.
What does a typical small site cost?
Shared hosting commonly runs $3โ€“$15 per month, a .com domain about $10โ€“$20 per year, and business email $6+ per mailbox per month. VPS and managed WordPress plans run higher.
Is my data private?
Yes. All the math happens on your device in plain JavaScript โ€” no server, no account, nothing stored or sent.
