๐ How it works & FAQHow Whatnot fees work
When your livestream auction or Buy It Now sale closes, Whatnot takes two bites out of the money the buyer pays. The first is the seller commission โ by default 8% of the sold price of the item. The second is the payment processing fee, typically 2.9% of the total transaction plus a flat $0.30, which covers card network costs. Whatever is left is your payout, and once you subtract what you paid for the item and the shipping label, you have your real profit. This calculator runs all of that live as you type, so you can see whether a $12 hammer price actually leaves anything behind after fees and costs. The fee figures are approximate defaults you can edit; check the platform's current fees; estimates only, not financial advice.
How to use it

- Read the result cards: total fees, estimated payout, profit, and margin update instantly with every keystroke.
FAQ
- Is Whatnot commission charged on shipping?
- Commission is generally charged on the sold price of the item, while payment processing applies to the full amount the buyer pays, including shipping. That is exactly how this calculator models it: commission on price, processing on price plus buyer shipping.
- Why does the flat $0.30 matter so much on cheap items?
- Because it is fixed, it eats a bigger share of small sales. On a $2 sale it is 15% of the price by itself, before commission. Bundling low-value items into one transaction is the usual fix.
- Does this include sales tax, refunds, or cancellations?
- No. Marketplace-collected sales tax is remitted by Whatnot and does not change your payout in this model, and refunds or cancellations are not simulated. Treat every result as an estimate.
- Is my sales data uploaded anywhere?
- No. The entire calculator runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or stored.
